~Reasons for myths

As in many Asian countries dogs roam  on streets openly from house to house, and interact with many people in a day, now a days due to COVID-19 pandemic , many people think that dogs are the main reasons or up to some extent spreading corona virus .they think that dogs are spreading corona virus by their fur, their breath…..

They think that if an infected person came in contact with dogs then the dog will become infected.

~Facts

According to latest news related to corona virus, domestic animals including dogs naturally carry other coronaviruses  in  their gastro-intestinal, respiratory tracts, which are different from novel corona virus i.e. COVID 19.

Given the lack of evidences for reverse transmission of the corona virus, even if a companion animal presents respiratory or gastro-intestinal signs they should not be routinely tested for COVID-19 at this time. Instead the animal’s owner should consult with the veterinarian to determine whether an in-clinic examination is needed or not. If a new, concerning illness is observed that cannot be otherwise explained, and the companion dog has had close and prolonged contact with a person with confirmed COVID-19 infection, the veterinarian should contact the state public  health veterinarian for COVID-19.

~If I am diagnosed positive for COVID-19, how do I protect my pet?

The American Veterinary Medical Association and the CDC recommend that anyone sick with COVID-19 should maintain separation from household pets and other animals while you are sick with COVID-19, just like you would with other people. Although there have not been reports of pets becoming sick with COVID-19 in the United States, it is still recommended that people sick with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. When possible, have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick. If you are sick with COVID-19, avoid contact with your pet, including petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. If you must care for your pet or be around animals while you are sick, wash your hands before and after you interact with pets.

~Our role in this time

Care for dogs who don’t have owner feeding them because nowadays due to some myths people start maintaining distance from street dogs and not even giving them food now this is our responsibility to save them and show our love to dogs.
